Awareness & Communication

Raising Awareness. Inspiring Action. Amplifying Voices.

We bring maternal and newborn health into the spotlight. GFCNI designs campaigns that raise understanding, reduce stigma, and promote healthier futures. By blending strategic communication with authentic storytelling – and by partnering with parent communities and healthcare professionals – we reach the people who matter, where and when it matters most.

Our Approach

Through collaboration, GFCNI develops and delivers impactful communication initiatives that advance maternal and newborn health across the globe.

Our work includes:

  • Designing strategic campaigns with tailored messaging and multi-channel outreach.

  • Coordinating World Prematurity Day and thematic campaigns with ready-to-use or co-branded materials.

  • Producing creative content like visuals, videos, stories, infographics, and digital toolkits.

  • Engaging stakeholders and communities including parent/patient groups, professionals, and advocates.

  • Building social media and digital outreach to engage international audiences.

  • Developing multilingual communication assets to reach diverse communities.

  • Evaluating and reporting on impact to capture lessons learned and strengthen future campaigns.

Partnerships in Action

Our awareness and communication projects demonstrate how strategic storytelling and collaboration can drive change.

  • IMPROVE PRETERM: EU-funded initiative across 13 countries; GFCNI leads communication and dissemination to connect research with real-world impact.

  • BronQ Family: Featured under Research Opportunities for its scientific scope; here we highlight GFCNI’s outreach – branding, multilingual recruitment, and community partnerships.

  • World Breastfeeding Week: Annual coordination of multilingual resources and digital storytelling with partner networks.

  • Neopedia: Global information platform launched May 2025 (multi-language), developed and led by GFCNI to support families of preterm and sick babies.

IMPROVE PRETERM is a four-year, EU-funded research initiative uniting leading scientists, clinicians, and parent representatives from 13 countries to transform care for very preterm babies – those born before 32 weeks of pregnancy. The project develops innovative, cost-effective, and evidence-based tools and strategies to improve long-term health, developmental outcomes, and quality of life for children and families affected by preterm birth. Through its comparative effectiveness research approach, IMPROVE PRETERM strengthens the scientific foundation for better treatments, follow-up care, and prevention strategies while advancing equitable, family-centered care across Europe and beyond.

As leader of the project’s communication and dissemination work package, GFCNI drives the visibility and engagement strategy – crafting clear, inclusive communication that connects research with real-world impact. We manage project branding, digital outreach, and media relations across partner countries, ensuring that every message reflects lived experience and advances family-centered care.

The BronQ Family Project is an international research initiative led by GFCNI to better understand how Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) – also known as neonatal chronic lung disease of prematurity – affects the long-term quality of life of children and their families. While featured on our Research Opportunities page for its scientific scope, here we highlight GFCNI’s role in outreach and engagement  – designing the project’s communication strategy, branding, and multilingual participant recruitment.

As the project’s communication lead, GFCNI designed and implements the full outreach and engagement strategy – including branding, messaging, digital content, and participant recruitment. By combining targeted social media promotion, community partnerships, and parent-organization outreach, we ensure strong visibility and participation across countries and languages. The project exemplifies how research and communication intersect to amplify family voices and promote better care.

Every year, GFCNI joins the global community in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) – highlighting the importance of breastfeeding for newborn and maternal health.

Working closely with parent organizations, healthcare professionals, and advocates, we deliver a unified message that supports informed feeding choices and family-centered care. Through multilingual campaign materials, social media engagement, and digital storytelling, we raise awareness, strengthen community connections, and expand the global conversation on breastfeeding and newborn nutrition.

Launched in May 2025, Neopedia.org is a global information platform developed by GFCNI to support families of babies born preterm or sick. The site bridges the gap in accessible, evidence-based information on prematurity, neonatal hospitalization, and follow-up care.

Available in multiple languages, Neopedia provides expert-reviewed content, practical guidance, and connections to local and national support organizations. GFCNI led its entire development – from expert engagement and content production to digital design and global outreach.

With visitors from more than 140 countries in its first months, Neopedia has already become a trusted resource for families worldwide. Its creation was made possible through the unconditional support of our corporate partner, Chiesi.
