Education & Training for Healthcare Professionals: The GFCNI Academy

Empowering healthcare professionals through science-based education.

We provide high-quality training and educational resources designed to improve outcomes for preterm and sick infants and their families. Through the GFCNI Academy, we offer learning grounded in the latest evidence-based practices. With input from leading experts, our mission is to educate, inspire, and empower those who care for the most vulnerable newborns.

Our Approach

Our education and training initiatives combine scientific rigor with practical application to strengthen neonatal and perinatal care worldwide.

Our work includes:

  • Developing educational materials (factsheets, presentations, videos).

  • Creating digital training formats (webinars, e-learning, micro-learning).

  • Organizing interactive workshops with affordable fees.

  • Implementing train-the-trainer and peer-to-peer models for sustainable knowledge transfer.

  • Tailoring content from early-career to senior specialists.

  • (Co-)Organizing international scientific conferences to advance professional exchange.

We collaborate with leading experts, universities, healthcare societies, our Scientific Committee, industry partners through educational grants, and a growing international network of trainers.

Partnerships in Action

Our education and training programs highlight how knowledge sharing can transform neonatal care.

  • International Preterm Nutrition Program (IPPN): A global micro-learning initiative developed by the GFCNI Academy for the Nestlé Nutrition Institute, reaching 10,000+ professionals over five years (concluded 2025).

  • International congress co-organization (jENS): Co-organizer and active participant since 2015; shaping programs, chairing sessions, and leading pre-courses on key neonatal topics.

  • Resources for healthcare professionals: Open-access, evidence-based factsheets (English; translations on request) distributed via social media, newsletters, and congresses.

The International Preterm Nutrition Program (IPPN) was a global micro-learning initiative developed by the GFCNI Academy for the Nestlé Nutrition Institute.

Designed for neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nurses, and dietitians, the program helped healthcare professionals deliver targeted nutritional support, monitor growth and development, and apply best practices.

Over five successful years, the IPPN reached more than 10,000 healthcare professionals worldwide before concluding in 2025 – leaving a legacy of improved understanding and care in neonatal nutrition.

As a co-organizer and active participant in the biannual Joint European Neonatal Societies (jENS) Congress, GFCNI helps shape the scientific program and foster global collaboration in neonatal medicine.

Through leadership roles on the Executive and Scientific Committees, we curate congress content, chair sessions, and lead pre-courses on key topics including preterm nutrition, family-centered developmental care, and patient safety.

Since its inception in 2015, jENS has become a leading international platform, welcoming 1,500–2,000 participants every two years – uniting clinicians, researchers, and advocates from around the world.

We offer open-access, evidence-based materials designed to inform and empower healthcare professionals at every stage of their careers.

Our factsheets provide concise, practical insights on key topics in preterm and neonatal health, developed in collaboration with leading experts.

All materials are produced in English and can be translated upon request to ensure global accessibility. Through targeted outreach via social media, newsletters, and international congresses, these resources reach professionals worldwide – helping strengthen knowledge, collaboration, and care quality.
